I was unhealthy.
I had spent the better part of the last three years being pregnant or nursing and taking care of everyone but myself. I was that mom who couldn’t possibly find the time for herself, because being the best mom ever meant my kids got all of my attention.
I was unhappy.
I wasn’t confident in myself anymore, I was struggling to hold adult conversations (talking to toddlers all day can have this effect), and I was uncomfortable with the way I looked. I was the wife who thought cleaning the house, doing the dishes and folding laundry was how I proved my daily contribution to the family.
I was wrong.
I surprised my husband with a trip to Florida for his 30th birthday. I weaned my one year old just in time to go on this four night trip away, just the two of us. My body was in shambles. My mind was a mess. We enjoyed ourselves as we were away from the kids for the first time but I remember being so uncomfortable. I wanted to wear all my fancy clothes and dress up nicely but whenever I put on an outfit, I hated how I looked. It would take me another 8 months and 20 more pounds to realize I needed some help and accountability.
I’m happy to say I have, after months of hard work and self-focus, reached my ultimate goal weight. The number that taunted me because it seemed impossible to reach. My weight loss journey has been incredibly moving, life changing actually, mind altering. I’m happy to be strong again both physically but also mentally. I’ve become a person who is not only happy because I like the person in the mirror, but also because I’ve taken time to do some soul searching. I surprise myself all the time with how much I have changed.
My journey has always been less about weight loss and more about creating an identity for myself other than ‘mom’. Now don’t get me wrong – my greatest gift in life has been the opportunity to be a mom – but I want to show my little girl that the world is a place of endless possibilities. I want her to see me be successful, strong, independent and courageous. I want her to see the genuine smile that flies across my face every single day. I want her to see me love her daddy with my whole heart. I want her to hear me laugh from way deep inside. I want her to watch me ferociously chase my dreams.
Excuse the cliche, but what they say is true- only when you love yourself, can you truly love others. When you’re unhappy on the inside it projects on the outside, whether you mean it to or not. You don’t intend to be negative, it just comes out. In becoming the ME I wanted to be, I have relearned how to truly love myself and others.
I dare you to try it – No more dodging compliments. No body shaming. No negativity. No self-pity. No excuses.
When you put yourself first for just a little bit of your day, you start to change. You start to value yourself again, you start to shine.
Happy Valentine’s Day my friends!

It took me over 28 years, but I finally figured it out: moms truly know best. Mostly because they have been in our shoes, experienced everything first hand, know likely outcomes of scenarios, and just want what’s best for their children. It took me 28 years, but looking back, I can now say: Yes, Mom, you were right…my eyebrows didn’t look good when I over plucked them in 10th grade. Yes, Mom, sunburns which turn me into a bright, red lobster aren’t attractive (or healthy!) You’re right, Mom, using a cheap box of hair dye is always a bad idea. It seems like no matter which age, moms know best.
Something else I have learned in this time is that I will always be my mother’s daughter. I’m 28 years old and whenever I return home I still get asked, ‘Do you have your sunblock? Do you need any money? What can I feed you? Is your car full with gas? Will you remember to text me when you get home?’ Being a mom is a full time, lifelong job. It takes incredible amounts of patience, understanding, love, responsibility, and strength to raise children.
There is no doubt: moms are incredible. They know all, and do all. A real life superwoman. In honor of all hardworking moms out there, blush wants to celebrate!
Today through Sunday, blush + blushpro studios are offering FREE UPGRADES to all of our exclusive blushtan® solution services FOR ALL MOMS 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day!
No matter who you are, whether you’re a mom, dad, daughter, or son…this time of year is very well known. No, I’m not talking about Spring renewal, or school vacations, or even opening day. I am talking about: PROM SEASON. For a one day event, it is a much talked-about, planned, and documented evening. Blush is here with some prom advice for you to make sure the big day goes smoothly and you are feeling your most beautiful.
One month out:
While I’ve seen girls buy a dress in January for a May prom, it is important to have a dress plan at least a month before the event. It is one of biggest decisions, don’t put it off! Keep in mind that if you buy a dress online, shipping and returns will take at least a month — and alterations will take a few weeks as well. Whichever dress you choose, make SURE you are comfortable and can dance in that gorgeous thing. Real talk: if you can’t move in it, it won’t matter how cute it is.
Make those appointments! Nope, a month out is not too far in advance. Yes, you will be thankful you did. Even if you have to change the date or time during the week of prom, now is the time to book. If they are needed, you also will want to order a boutonniere or corsage to be picked up the day of prom.
While it is important to always focus on physical health (obviously), a month before will give you enough time to detox your system and feel the effects of a new routine. Drink LOTS of water. The scientific impacts of water on the body and mind are beyond evident, so make sure you get your 8 glasses in each day. Can’t do that much H2O? Tea is another helpful way to flush out toxins and energize your life. Hit the gym! At the very least stay active and keep your arms toned. Also remember to eat clean and natural foods; try some superfood supplements or increase your intake of greens, but definitely NO junk! When you’re taking care of the body internally, you will see the effects on the outside.
You also are going to want to start searching for the perfect clutch or purse, jewelry, perfume, deodorant, and shoes (you need to break them in, babe!) A blush reminder: on the day of prom, there will be a lot of products going on your body and in your hair…make sure you don’t have too many competing or any overpowering smells.
Now is also the time to start investigating hair and makeup ideas. Try Pinterest, Instagram, or YouTube to find inspiration!
Two weeks out:
The day is getting closer! Time to get going on that sparkly smile. Whether you opt to professionally get it done, or just use whitening strips, making your teeth bright and clean will significantly improve your appearance.
The week of prom:
Ah! It is almost here! A week before prom is a good time to start focusing on the outside. You should hydrate the skin either through moisturizers or face masks. This will give you a glow and prevent breakouts. You also want to remember to start taking care of your lips and hair with chapstick and leave in conditioner.
Now is also time to get a wax (if you are planning on forgoing shaving), get your nails done, and opt for a spray tan. It may be a good idea to get them closer to the day of prom, but you need to do what’s best for your body and timeline. Everyone is different!
Exciting news! Blush will be offering every prom babe $10 off your spray tan. We’ve heard from our clients how important it is to you all to have a tan for prom, so we want to make that as easy and special for you as possible. When you check out at any blush location, just mention this blog and that you’re getting prom prepped with us!
The BIG day:
It is here! Finally here. I hope you had a relaxing, easy night before. You took a long, warm bath and went to sleep early, right? Good. Now today is all about putting it together. Get that makeup and hair done, throw on your dress and shoes. Gorgeous. Don’t forget your tickets (could you imagine?!) and the essentials…bobby pins, mints, lip gloss, blotting paper, fully charged phone, money.
But I will end with the most important advice: despite every effort and proper planning, prom may not go exactly as planned. But don’t stress or dwell! Stay smiling babes, because the night will be what you make of it and the positive energy you put out into the universe will come back to you. I promise.
Blush is sending you all the best wishes and hope your night is full of laughter, love, and magic.
Stay safe this prom season!

Spring break is creeping up on us, better get packing! I’m sure you’ve got your flip flops, beach read, towel, and bathing suit all ready to go. But, babes, don’t get so excited envisioning how beautiful you’re going to look in that new bikini that you forget the most important part: sun protection.
It’s no secret that prolonged exposure to UV rays is bad for you. It causes skin cancer and cataracts and leads to premature aging. Um…no. thank. you! So wherever you’re headed this spring break, make sure you are packing right.
In terms of clothes, cover ups help to protect your skin from the sun but also look cute while doing it. Wearing a hat keeps the sun off your scalp, face, and out of your eyes (like these absolutely UH-dorable ones on Pinterest). Always use sunscreen! Grab a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to apply while you’re away. If you need help choosing, Cosmopolitan has a complete list for every skin type. Remember though, it’s not just the skin we need to protect. Once you have some lip balm with SPF and your most stylish shades, you’ll be ready to go!
While you’re on vacation, try to stay out of the sun. (But, Jessie, how can you show off a trip tan if you’re avoiding sun?) Spray tans are a healthy alternative to sun tanning and can give you a dark “back from vacation” tan in minutes. Or maybe you just want a little glow before you go? After all, no one wants to be “that guy” who looks like they just landed in paradise. Either way, blush is here for you!
But maybe, just maybe, you’re like me: hanging out at home where the only vacation I am taking is in my head. Follow my lead and simply opt for a spray tan to make it look like you went away! Don’t worry babes, your secret is safe with me.
Happy Spring Breaking!
